Barnes & Noble book store

Over the last 3 months I was working on direct mailers and book fair poster for Barnes & Noble. (Images may change slightly subject to the final design of the text-placement.)
It came as a nice surprise as I had never worked on series of illustration like this seasonal direct mailers.
It was little challenging to get the right feel of the store at the beginning as I never visited the store. But with the references I got and feedbacks I had from the client I was able to pull it off. The client liked my "whimsical style" - as they called it, and wanted to turn the book store into an opening box - you might recognise the pink building from my past work.

クリスマスから３月にかけて、アメリカの書店、Barnes & Nobleとのお仕事をさせていただきました。ダイレクトメイラーを2枚と、ポスターのお仕事の依頼を頂きました。シリーズものとしてお仕事させていただけたのはとても嬉しかったです。
下は書店会員になると毎2ヶ月ごとに届く、ダイレクトメイラーのイラスト。

母の日が迫る３月に発送のメイラーのため、女性にあげたいギフトアイデアをテーマに描きました。（上）

2枚目は、１月のもの。書店に訪れるお客さんが「ついつい集まりたくなるような場所」をテーマに、書店の魅力を詰め合わせたイラストです。

There were lots of elements in the January edition direct mailer and in the book fair poster. I don't think I have painted so may books and people in one piece before!

それにしても、こんなにたくさんの人、本と本棚を１枚の作品で描いたのは初めてです！

Direct mailers were sent out to members of Barnes & Noble. The poster will be put up in the stores where there will be book fairs held in various B&N store in USA.

As I won't be able to see the printed poster, it would be nice if anyone in the US could message me with the photo or something:)

Children's literacy- "Catching Clouds"

Over the summer I had an opportunity to work on a book for Children's literacy, "Catching Clouds" written by Aleesah Darlison, published by Oxford University Press Australia and New Zealand.

The book is about a girl who wanted to become friends with a cloud. They spend time together going for a walk and riding through the night sky but one day the cloud started to miss its other friends in the sky.

I enjoyed illustrating the girl and the cloud's adventure, especially the night sky scene. I was also asked to do a hand-written text for the title and the re-cap of the story at the end. It was interesting writing text with paint and brush.

The book is not for sale at retail stores but is available for schools to read for children.

今年の夏は、Aleesah Darlisonさん作の絵本、「Catching Clouds」（Oxford University Press Australia and New Zealandさんから出版）の挿画のお仕事をさせていただきました。

主人公の女の子は雲とお友達になりたくて、ある日雲をつかまえます。ふたりは一緒に遊んだりするのですが、やがて雲は空にいたときのお友達が恋しくなり、やがて女の子は雲を手放さなければならなくなってしまうというお話です。

Aleesahさんの、女の子と雲の遊びのやり取りがとても可愛らしいお話です。

Exploring London

I knew about this book but I hadn't bought it for a while. Until when I find myself going back to the same old places every time I go into London.
Finally I have bought this book called, "Tired of London, Tired of Life"
This book tells you London'd hidden delights - places to visit every day. One place a day for 365 days.

Now I am seeing different scenes of London. Here are two of the places we've been from the book.

最近、ロンドン市内に出ても、今まで行ったことのある場所にばかりまた訪れている自分に気づき、そしてそんな場所ばっかりで少し退屈していたのだけれど、「Tired of London, Tired of Life」という本を買って、今までに訪れたことない、ロンドンのまた違った一面を見るのが楽しい。

この本は、365日ごと、１日１カ所ずつ、ロンドンの隠れ家的場所を紹介している。

下の写真は、その本から見つけて最近訪れた場所の写真。

ロンドンアイに乗らなくても、ロンドンが一望できる。ウェストミンスター大聖堂のタワーてっぺんからの風景。

At Lassco Brunswick House at Vauxhall. Great place to visit. They have vintage interior and products. It would be nice if you are thinking to decorate your house.

ヴォルクスホールにあるラスコ。

家の中はヴィンテージもののインテリア、ドアノブから家具まで、手に取って見れて、その場で購入も可能。家中がビンテージものであふれてて、路上マーケットとは違う、またいい雰囲気でした。

Sew your own Rag Doll

 

I have worked with Quadrille publishing earlier this year to make Cath Kidston's craft book, " Sew your own Rag Doll"published this autumn.  I have illustrated the 2D rag doll illustration inside and also illustrated the rag doll that is printed on the fabric so that you can make your own 3D rag doll!

Below is the photo of fabric that comes with the book. Rag doll is printed on this. So you can cut it out and sew them together.

I was a little bit worried when I was illustrating in 2D knowing that the doll will be 3D when it is sewn but the doll looks lovely! ( bit biased but anyhow.) Thank you to Quadrille publishing and pattern maker and everyone involved in making this book!  You can buy Cath Kidston fabric and make clothes for the doll. Patterns and how to make is also inside the book.

今年のはじめにQuadrille publishingさん（出版社さん）と縫いぐるみ人形（ラグドール）のお仕事をさせていただきました。それがやっと わが家に届きました！私が担当したのは　本の中の2Dのラグドールのイラストと実際に縫うと3Dになるラグドールです。Quadrille Publishingさんは毎年、キャス・キッドソンとクラフトの本を出していて、今年は縫いぐるみ人形ということみたいです。 絵を描いているときは、人形が3Dになるんだと分かりつつも、2Dの絵をパターンの上に描いていたで、どんなものやらと少し不安でしたが、できてみるとかわいいですね。さすがデザイナーさんとパターンの担当さん！

本にはラグドールの生地が付いてきて、自分で人形が作れます。本の中には人形の作り方とお人形に着せる、キャス・キッドソンの生地を使った洋服のパターンと作り方も書いてあります。（洋服の生地は別売りみたいです）
