Trying out acrylic gouache

Those are very stylish toiletries we found in a French hotel we stayed in the past. I always wanted to illustrate this and finally I have done it!

Together I was inspired by my friend's hand drawn letter work, I just wanted to do some lettering. 

Those are 90% true to the real box, but wow, how long it takes to draw those letters out! I was concentrating so hard and enjoying completing the work. That took me three hours of concentration.

So I tried out the acrylic gouache set I had. I found them easier to apply and quicker to draw.

以前パリで泊まったホテルの可愛いトイレタリー。いつかイラストで描いてみたいと思っていたのですが、やっと描くことができました。

箱とボトルがかわいいので、そのままを表現しようと、文字も９０％正確に描いています。（ちょっと英文は省略してます。）文字が細かくて、集中して描いてたら、３時間もたっていました！やっぱり手書き文字って大変！友達の作品をみて、手書き文字を描きたくなって描いた作品でもあります。

いつもはアクリル絵具を使って描くのですが、今回はアクリルガッシュ画として描いてみて、細かい部分の描きやすさと、描くスピードがアクリルに比べると少し早く描けるかなってことが発見できました。

Exploring London

I knew about this book but I hadn't bought it for a while. Until when I find myself going back to the same old places every time I go into London.
Finally I have bought this book called, "Tired of London, Tired of Life"
This book tells you London'd hidden delights - places to visit every day. One place a day for 365 days.

Now I am seeing different scenes of London. Here are two of the places we've been from the book.

最近、ロンドン市内に出ても、今まで行ったことのある場所にばかりまた訪れている自分に気づき、そしてそんな場所ばっかりで少し退屈していたのだけれど、「Tired of London, Tired of Life」という本を買って、今までに訪れたことない、ロンドンのまた違った一面を見るのが楽しい。

この本は、365日ごと、１日１カ所ずつ、ロンドンの隠れ家的場所を紹介している。

ロンドンアイに乗らなくても、ロンドンが一望できる。ウェストミンスター大聖堂のタワーてっぺんからの風景。

At Lassco Brunswick House at Vauxhall. Great place to visit. They have vintage interior and products. It would be nice if you are thinking to decorate your house.

家の中はヴィンテージもののインテリア、ドアノブから家具まで、手に取って見れて、その場で購入も可能。家中がビンテージものであふれてて、路上マーケットとは違う、またいい雰囲気でした。

Power of illustration!

I've just had an approval from my client on a new job.
Above is just a little peek of the work. I have illustrated various animals and Adam & Eve that might appear in a jungle...or in the garden of Eden.

I often think and struggle nowadays that if I really want to pursue my career as an illustrator. But getting a job like this and having the client saying they love my work makes me really happy and realise I probably can't take "illustrating" out of my life completely.

今年に入って二つ目のイラストの依頼、今日やっと納品しました。
最近、このままイラストレーターとして続けていくことに対して不安だったり、やる気が削られそうになることがあったけれど、こうやってお仕事がもらえたり、依頼先の方から、「I love it!」なんて言われると、やっぱりすごく嬉しいし、絵を描くことを完全にやめてしまうことはできないだろうなぁ、なんて思います。この気持ちが消えないように、ちょっと頑張らねばです。

Autumnal leaf greeting card set

Finally finished the leaf pattern project I was working on. I made them into a greeting card set. Each card comes with a matching envelope which is hand cut and hand folded by me. They are now available from my shop.

Mail Me Art post arrived!

I have signed up for Mail Me Art this year.  Mail me art is a project where artists decorate an envelope with their works and send the envelope to Darren who runs this project by mail. Lots of artists in the world is sending their decorated envelopes to UK.
This was first time I am participating in the project. I have done the illustration shown in the photo above on a watercolour paper and made it into an envelope. This is an illustration inspired by a sweet-tooth chimp in BBC's Africa show. The little monkey is taking the boy to where the chimp is hiding... I have posted it and it has now reached the Mail Me Art head quarter! You can check the work by other artists by visiting the website. ( Click the Mail Me Art link!) They are amazing.

Mail Me Artは、封筒に絵を描き、それを郵便で送るプロジェクトです。世界の色々なアーティストから送られる封筒を受け取るのは、主催者のダレン。送られてきた封筒は後に展示会で紹介されて、本としても出版されます。リンク先から他のアーティストの封筒も見れます。みんな気合いが入っているし、素敵な絵がいっぱいです。
私は今回このプロジェクトに参加するのは始めてなのですが、上の写真が、私の封筒に直接描いた絵です。といっても、封筒の紙だとアクリルで表面がボコボコになってしまったので、水彩用紙に描いたものを、封筒に仕上げたものです。なぜサルと男の子なのか？
この間見たBBCのドキュメンタリーで、甘味好きのチンパンジーというのが出てきて、それからこの絵を描くことに決めました。曖昧な理由だ。

Day 2

I failed to upload the photo, but this is what I did yesterday for my One a day project.

I took so many photos of Autumnal leaves last year, wanting to illustrate it somehow. Now I came up with an idea of turning them into envelopes.

This is a proto type of my envelope.

Many others to come. Once it is finished, I am planning to put on Etsy shop.

Forget 5 a Day

This isn't about essential fruits or vegetable I need to have in a day. This is about creating.
I need to MAKE something...one a day, at least. Recently I am feeling rubbish, not being productive enough, not coming up with any good ideas. So I have decided I am going to make/illustrate one thing a day. This shouldn't be too hard. Whether it turns out to be simple or rubbish, I make one thing a day. Hence the coice of material - cartridge paper! I don't have to feel too pressured about creating not so good work on a good acrylic paper. Let's see how long it will last.


「１日にひとつ」
最近、なんか気に入った絵が描けないのと、いいアイディアが思い付かないのもあって、１日にひとつ、何かをつくることに決めた。前にもこう決めてやったけど、確か１週間も続かなかったから、今回は１週間でも続けたい。←あんまり決心が感じられないね。
良質水彩／アクリル紙を使わないで、画用紙を使うつもりでいるから、「いい絵を描こう」って言うプレッシャーからは逃れられるかと思って。とにかく、シンプルでも、下手な絵でもいいから、１日にひとつなにかつくっていきます。
