Hello 2019!

My husband and I spent 12 months in Japan in 2018 as I wanted to show him Japan throughout the changing seasons and I also wanted to spend more time closer to my family. I left Japan when I was 15 and since then I never really lived in Japan. I will be posting some of our adventures in Japan every now and then.

So now we are back here in the UK (came back at the end of November), welcomed by something I had forgotten about! -  the dark and early sunset and wet London. Yes, we didn't come back to the best of its season. Now in January we are properly settled back.

I would like to make 2019 a fresh start and maybe trying something new. I will definitely be doing more self-promotions and spend more time into my online shop, coming up with new items.
I would also like to do some collaborations with friends - I have many talented friends in my industry and other industries so it would be nice to do something together. Anybody interested? Let me know!


2018年11月末までの12ヶ月間、旦那さんと日本へ短期移住をしておりました。1年を通して日本の四季を見せてあげたかったのと、私も15歳から幸い留学をさせてもらい家族の近くで過ごせる時間が少なかったため、日本で思い切り家族 と共に時間を過ごし、「生活」してみようと踏み切った12ヶ月でした。去年はブログを書ききれなかったため、またちょこちょこと私たちの日本での経験も書いていく予定です。

さて、昨年の11月末にイギリスに戻り、忘れかけていたイギリスの暗くて日暮れの早い、雨が降る季節に迎えられ、（（笑）もしかしたら一番悪い時期に帰ってきたのかも！）1月になりだいぶ落ち着いてきた感じです。

2019年はなんだか新しいことに挑戦してみようと思っています。自分からの売り込みをするのはもちろんのこと、ショップにももっと時間を 注いで、新しい商品も作っていきたいと思っています。そして、イラストや他の分野でも活躍している友人が多いため、コラボレーションなどもしていきたいなと思っています。2月にコラボを一つする予定なのでまたお知らせします。

March feeling

もう3月になってしまい、日本に来てから３ヶ月ほどが経ちました。（English to follow.)
その間に、私が日本に居なかった間にできなかったことへいくつか挑戦や経験をし、また日本に来たからこそできたことがいくつかありました。

社会人になってから日本に「住む」ことがなかったので、今回の１年間の滞在は本当に大きな決断でした。どちらかというとワクワクよりも不安の多い決断だったのです。

お部屋探しをしたり、印鑑を作ったり、添え状や職務経歴書を書いたり。まさに、日本で住んでいたなら経験したであろうことをこの３ヶ月で一気に体験しました。「あー、このまま何も知らずに生活してたらやばいな」ってことがたくさんで、すんなりと日本に帰って来たことですっぽりと日本の生活に馴染めるかな、なんて思ったりもしていましたが、想像していたよりきつくて、大変です。うらしまのぞみは世間に置いていかれてしまった気がします。（笑）今はそのギャップと、自分の中にある日本の常識などの照らし合わせを日々しているような感覚です。

その他、お仕事には繋がりませんでしたが、日本に来たことでお会いできたクライアント様と企画制作などもさせていただき、良い機会が頂けたと思っております。またいつかご一緒にお仕事ができることを願っております。

さて、2018年に販売する予定で作っていたカレンダー、数人の方にはお渡しすることができたのですが、残りは日本へ来る前にWest elmで販売するために買い取っていただいたために、私のショップで販売ができず、多くの方の目に触れる機会がなかったので、こちらでご紹介させていただきたいと思います。

今回のテーマは、私が好きなロンドンの風景です。家から近い公園や街も描いていて、イギリスに訪れた際はぜひ足を運んでもらいたいお薦めの場所を12箇所セレクトしました。

最後に、今年は日本で何かしらの形で作品をお見せできる展示をしてみたいです。

My gosh, it's March already. It has been about 3 months since my husband and I moved to Japan.

Within those 3 months I have experienced many stuff that I would have done in years if I had lived in Japan. I have never "lived" in Japan after uni, so for me, coming over here was a more scary decision than an exciting one. 

We looked for a room to rent in Tokyo, (but we decided to stay close to my parents since living in Tokyo was an expensive option and we liked the mountains around here. Though finding a room was difficult as my husband is non-Japanese and some landlords are sceptical of foreigners, and my job is freelance and I would be the one signing the contract. They wouldn’t like this either. We hadn't gone further with this so we might have got a place but we don't know..) I also made an inkan - which is a Japanese seal that acts as a signature in western country. I have also written Japanese equivalent of CV - all written by hand and it's a lot of writing! Anyway all these things are natural to those who live here but these were things I had to learn and do. I would have embarrassed myself even more if I was older and didn't know all of these. I was imagining that if I came here I would have fitted in much easier but I discovered that it was much harder and I feel like everyday I am filling in those gaps of knowledge that was missing.

I also had few good things that I experienced because we made the move to Japan. I met a recent client face to face so that I could do a further job with her. Unfortunately it didn't end up being a job but it never happened if I didn't see her here. I wish to do a job with her again in the future and many more opportunities to come while I'm in Japan.

Changing of the subject, I never really got to show you my 2018 London calendar so I thought I might mention it here. I managed to sell few on my Etsy shop and the rest was then sold at west elm Kingston store - which was a big exciting news before I left for Japan. Please see the photos above for detail.
I have illustrated 12 of my favourite places in London and greater London. If you haven't visited any of these places then I really do recommend it.

Finally, this is my wish - I thought I'll mention it so that I should make it happen. I would like to do an exhibition while i'm in Japan.

Starting a life in Japan

A LOT has happened since my last post. I'm writing this post in Japan, sitting on a little sofa with my husband next to me in this little town where I grew up about 2 hours train ride from Tokyo.

It's funny because I'm taking TEFL English teaching course online and it describes the feeling of arriving in a new country: you are in the tourist/honeymoon phase first, excited about all the new things around you then comes negotiation phase or irritation-to-anger phase where everything you were used to does not seem to happen in the country. After few months you start to realize the customs of the country and you will get along and settle in. ( or some case you absolutely hate it and go back.) I've pretty much done that up to the irritation-to-anger phase. Things are starting to get a little easier.

I left Japan when I was 15 years old to study abroad. Pretty much never LIVED in Japan since then. So coming back after many years and trying to live here is proven to be not easy at all.

I'm hoping for a positive outcome from this crazy move. I want to show my husband this beautiful Japan's nature throughout the year and get some inspiration from here for my future work. I'm also looking forward to spending some time with my family after many years of being away.
This was a bit different from my usual post but thought I would update what I'm up to.

最後に書いたブログからだいぶ経ってしまいました！その期間に結構たくさんのことが起こり、なんと今は日本からこのブログを書いています。私の地元は神奈川の西部にある小いさな町で、東京からは電車で約２時間ほど離れたところにあります。

面白いことに、今勉強中のTEFL英語教師資格の章の中に、初めて新しい国へ訪れる時の気持ちの段階のことが書かれています。①、まずは観光・ハネムーン気分。着いて間もないころは新しい土地への期待と興奮で何もかもがよく見えます。②、イライラ期。自分のいた国との違い、普段どうりいかないことなどが原因で全てのことが悪く見えます。③新しい国でのマナーや文化の違いを受け入れ始め、徐々に生活に馴染んでいきます。（あるケースでは、馴染めずに来た国へ帰ってしまう事もあります。）とまぁ、一応②まではもうすでに経験しました（笑）今は、少し慣れ始め、良くなって来たかなというところです。

15歳で留学のため日本を離れてから、一度も日本に「住む」ということがなかったため、やはり成人になってからまた日本に「住む」となると難しいですね。

でもこの突飛な１、２年の滞在の終わりには、「来てよかった」と思えるようにしたいので、これから乗り越えなきゃいけない壁はまだまだありますが、旦那さんに１年を通して日本の素敵な自然を見てもらうのと、今後の作品作りへのインスピレーション、また今まで過ごす時間の少なかった家族とももっと近い距離でいれることを力に頑張っていきたいと思います。長くなりましたが、近況報告まで。

Approaching December

It has been a while since my last post! I need to write more frequently!

Since around September, along with my monthly editorial commissions I have been busy making a piece for an illustration competition, creating some wedding stationery for friends and creating new work for a group exhibition in Japan. (This coming December! I will write the detail in this post.)

I will be heading to Japan for a week from the end of the month - Very exciting!!
I can't wait to soak in onsen - public bath, especially in this weather! It's going to be good.

"My Favourite Things" group exhibition in Tokyo
From Monday 5th to Saturday 10th December I will be exhibiting my newly created work for LP record cover exhibition at Laundry Graphics Gallery in Tokyo.
The theme for the cover was "My favourite things." So I could create anything I like or something related to a musician, Mayumi Kojima who will be performing at the event. So I combined the illustrations inspired by my trip to India few years ago and some of Mayumi's songs which feature sea and whales. I will post the images when I come back from the trip.

Also during December, I will be having a stall out at St.Agatha's school Xmas fair in Kingston. Because of my trip to Japan I have laid off applying for bigger London Xmas fairs but thankfully, my husband, very kindly agreed to stand at the stall for me on 4th December while I am away...Thank you!! So anyone local, please come and visit Nozomi Inoue illustration stall for some prints, posters and cards on Sunday 4th December between 2-5pm.

最後のブログから大分経ってしまいました。もうちょっと頻繁にアップしていかないとダメですね。

９月頃から、ちょこちょことお仕事の依頼が入り、少し忙しくしていました。絶対に応募したいと決めていたロンドンでのコンペに出す作品作りや、友人からウエディングのウェルカムボードや招待状などの制作も頼まれたり、１２月の頭に日本であるグループ展の展示作品制作など、忙しくなって余計なことを考えずに、作品作りに没頭できる時期が続いていました。嬉しいことです。

【My Favorite Things　レコードジャケット展】 at Laundry Graphics Gallery in Tokyo.

12月５日（月）〜10日（土）まで渋谷にあるLaundry Graphics Galleryにて、レコードジャケット展に参加いたします。今回のグループ展に参加するにあたり、新しい作品を制作しました。写真は制作途中のイラストです。「私のお気に入り」をテーマに、数年前にいったインドへの旅行と、イベントにてパフォーマンスされるミュージシャン、小島麻由美さんからインスピレーションを受けたイラストを描いてみました。是非、仕上がった作品もギャラリーにてご覧ください。お近くにお寄りの方は、是非ランドリーグラフィックスギャラリーに足をお運びくださいませ。


また、１２月4日（日）はロンドン郊外のキングストンにある学校、St.Agatha's schoolにてクリスマス・フェアに出店して参加する予定です。当日私はフェアには参加できないのですが、お近くにお住まいの方は是非お立ち寄りください。私のオリジナルの作品、プリント、クリスマスカードなどを販売しております。

I am delighted to announce that I was invited to be part of this year's Illustration file 2015. (Published in Japan.) It's my first time to put out my work on anything that is published in Japan. So I am very happy for this opportunity.
I am hoping for opportunities in the future to do some work for Japanese audiences.

Website logo design

I have been working on the website for Studio Pinocky since last year with my husband - who is a programmer at Bilayti Limited. Studio Pinocky is a multi-purpose rental studio space which my parents started from this year. The studio also provides dance classes and music lessons. Its grand open is beginning of April, but they are open for trial sessions until then.

Above is the character and text I have designed for the studio. I very much appreciate my husband for making the website with me sitting and explaining what each texts mean in Japanese and where they go etc. - thank you, D!

昨年の12月から今にかけて、実家の両親が始めた貸しスタジオスペースのHPを、ソフトウェア・ディベロッパーの旦那と二人で手がけていました。上と下のキャラクターとロゴのデザインを私がして、旦那さんがウェブサイトをつくってくれて、という感じです。日本語の資料を隣で私が訳しながら、レイアウトなんかも色々試したり、気長に根気づよくつくってくれた旦那に感謝です。
スタジオの本格オープンは4月１日ですが、今でも体験コースに参加することが出来ます。
毎週いろいろなダンスや音楽のレッスンなども受けられます。
